About the Event

Women added a new and necessary dimension to hip-hop culture from the beginning. Join us for an evening celebrating the historic influence of women in hip-hop as we examine the crucial ways women contributed to hip-hop’s visual culture, style and sound.

The panel will take place as part of the Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious exhibition and feature insights from legendary photographer Janette Beckman, Academy Award nominated & Emmy-winning producer and director Lisa Cortes (former president of Def Jam Records), designer/entrepreneur April Walker (founder of Walker Wear) and one of the founding mothers of Hip-Hop, MC Debbie D.

Moderated by author and journalist Vikki Tobak.
