If There Are Mountains is trumpeter Dave Douglas’ new project with pianist Elan Mehler. This set of new Douglas and Mehler compositions brings haiku poetry together with improvised music; the result is driving, lyrical, and thoughtful, with the great vocalist Dominique Eade providing new readings. The ensemble presents unusual melodic relationships with concise expression, matching the form of the Japanese and contemporary poetry found within the lyrics.
This very special New York CD/digital album release celebration is presented as part of Fotografiska New York’s Unfiltered Jazz series.
