In Concert: Kumara

Inaugural Record Release & Performance

Kumara lead shot _ tree 1920

About the Performance

Kumara was formed to perform original, transcendent compositions – compositions that have a powerful appeal to our shared humanity, and defy categorization. From their first meeting, there was a certain magic, an inner harmony to the music they created together. Kumara is Samite (African Harps, Vocals, Kalimba, Flute), Sean Harkness (Guitars), and Shem Guibbory (Violin). Each member of the band brings decades of creative, professional, and life experience to the stage.

Kumara’s performance will comprise their original music, stories and solos.

Samite, a world-renowned musician, humanitarian, and photographer, was born and raised in Uganda. His adult career as one of East Africa’s most renowned flutists, has allowed him to travel the world bringing his message of peace and hope through the healing power of music. Samite has received significant recognition including being twice nominated for the Hollywood Music in the Media Award.

Guitarist Sean Harkness is in high demand as a performer/composer on solo guitar and accompanies an astonishing array of world-class vocalists, musicians, and ensembles. Sean’s multiple awards include MAC, Bistro, and BroadwayWorld.com awards. Harkness represents Walden guitars and DR Strings, and has many commercial releases as an artist on Windham Hill Records [BMG/RCA/Sony] and others. He brings this fluency of musical talent to his performance with Kumara.

Violinist Shem Guibbory is an award-winning soloist and chamber musician. Mr. Guibbory played more than 40 seasons in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra; he has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Beethoven Halle Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony and the Symphony of the New World. He was the original violinist in the Steve Reich Ensemble and has recorded and performed throughout the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
