Festival Of New Trumpet Music (FONT)

With House Band Armo featuring Julie Acosta, Grace Fox & Jordan McLean

Hero Image for In Concert: Festival Of New Trumpet Music

About the Performance

Five years after performing at the museum’s opening in 2019, Armo will take the stage in the Loft at Fotografiska New York! Join us in welcoming FONT (Festival of New Trumpet) back to Fotografiska for a night of brilliant trumpeters from the New York/International scene. Sitting in all night with Armo will be trumpeters Julia Acosta and Grace Fox.

Co-founded and led by trumpeter (and Fotografiska’s Associate Director of Programming), Jordan McLean and longtime Antibalas bandmates percussionist/vocalist Marcus Farrar, guitarist/keyboardist Nikhil P. Yerawadekar, drummer Kevin Raczka and bassist Justin Kimmel, Armo creates spontaneous arrangements of the music of Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Tony Allen, Ebo Taylor, William Onyeabor, The Art Ensemble of Chicago, and original rhythm based music.

This 5-8 piece band features a revolving cast from the Daptone Records family and NY Afrobeat Scene. Members of the band now include Dave “Smoota” Smith on trombone/keyboardsand saxophonist/keyboardist Tony Jarvis.
