About the Event

A discussion about the impacts of the war on drugs in the Hip-Hop community and how the recent legalization of cannabis in New York City is focused on justice, equity and opportunity. Learn about how the City’s new ‘Cannabis NYC’ office, the NY State’s Office of Cannabis Management (OMC), and community based organizations are working on rolling out legal growing, delivery, retail and cannabis lounges to change the game and empower the community.

The panel will take place as part of the Hip Hop: Conscious, Unconscious exhibition and feature insights from Hip-Hop Pioneer, Artist and “Grass is Greener” Documentary Filmmaker Fab 5 Freddy, Founding Director of Cannabis NYC Dasheeda Dawson, Co-Founder of The Smoker’s Tour Club Shiest Bubz and Owner of Legacy Gallery NYC Umi RBG.

Moderated by rapper M-1 of political hip-hop duo Dead Prez.

Opening remarks will be given by Ariel Palitz, Founding Director of the NYC Office of Nightlife.
