CLASS DESCRIPTION

Join us for a two-part seminar covering social documentary photography as a form of portraiture with Brian Finke, an acclaimed photographer whose work has been printed in most major magazines, and who has published six monographs of his photography. Through lecture, assignments, and instructor critiques, we’ll cover magazine work for hire, book publishing, gallery representation, and developing projects from concept to completion.

10/23: In the first class of this two-part session, Brian will discuss his career journey as a published photographer, provide professional insights on the industry and examine the current state of documentary portraiture. A project will be assigned for review in the second class.

10/30: Participants bring in the completed assignment to share with the group, and discuss their goals and obstacles. Brian will lead a portfolio critique and conversation about the professional opportunities and contexts for one’s work.
